Master of Music (MMus) at UBC’s School of Music is a rigorous graduate program focusing on performance, composition, and conducting as sites for advanced artistic and academic development. Students deepen creative practice, musicianship, and research, working closely with award-winning faculty. The MMus offers specialized tracks—including performance (various instruments and voice), composition, choral/orchestral/wind conducting, opera, and more—with a typical structure of 33–39 credits. The degree may be a final professional qualification or preparation for further doctoral study. Training includes a combination of coursework, private study, research, and recitals, with performance or portfolio presentations replacing a traditional thesis in most streams.
