The Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM) at UBC is a rigorous and intensive 9-month, course-based graduate program designed to prepare students to become professional forest land managers in North America and internationally. The curriculum includes core topics such as fundamentals of sustainable forest land management, data acquisition and analysis, site-level and landscape-level management, forest economics and policy, forest health, wildlife habitat, climate considerations, silviculture, community forestry and more, with strong focus on both technical and social skills. The program involves practical fieldwork (including a residential field camp) and is accredited by the Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board and the Society of American Foresters, enabling graduates to become Registered Professional Foresters (RPF) and pursue professional credentials. MSFM graduates have achieved high employment rates in the sector.
