The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) at UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) is a professional, accredited graduate program designed to prepare students to enter the growing profession of landscape architecture. The curriculum integrates design studios with courses in landscape history and theory, site analysis, environmental planning, and management. Through internships, fieldwork, electives, and a capstone Graduation Project, students receive training both in theory and in practice. Students with a related design degree (e.g., Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Bachelor of Environmental Design from select institutions, or UBC's Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urbanism) are eligible for advanced placement and can complete the program in 2 years; all others follow the 3-year pathway. The MLA is recognized by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA), preparing graduates for licensure across Canada and the US.
