UBC's Master of Community and Regional Planning (MCRP) is a dual-accredited, intensive, and professionally oriented graduate degree offered by the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) within the Faculty of Applied Science. The program equips students with foundational theory, skills, and applied knowledge to become professional planners capable of addressing pressing 21st-century challenges such as climate change, urbanization, Indigenous reconciliation, and social equity. MCRP’s curriculum is generalist in structure, providing all graduates with broad core competencies, though optional focus areas and the Indigenous Community Planning concentration are available. The program features real-world studio projects, internships, and close engagement with municipal and community stakeholders. All students complete 60 credits over two years, including required core courses, electives, an internship, and studio-based projects. The MCRP is accredited in both Canada (CIP/PSB) and the USA (AICP/Planning Accreditation Board), ensuring broad professional recognition. The program admits about 40-45 students annually, making for highly competitive entry.
