The Master of Community and Regional Planning (MCRP) with a Concentration in Indigenous Community Planning (ICP) at UBC is a professionally accredited graduate program that prepares students to work respectfully with Indigenous communities in planning roles. The ICP concentration offers a unique partnership-based and land-based learning approach developed in collaboration with the Musqueam Indian Band, centering Indigenous worldviews and knowledge systems. Students engage in community and land-based learning, combining theory, practical skills, and immersive practicum experiences in partnership with First Nations. The program aims to train a new generation of planners equipped to address governance, resource management, land use, health, education, and employment within Indigenous communities, moving away from colonial planning frameworks. The program is fully accredited in Canada and the US, and its graduates are recognized experts capable of serving in diverse planning roles.
