UBC's Master of Archival Studies (MAS) at the School of Information is a unique, stand-alone professional graduate program focused on training archivists and records managers. The program emphasizes the creation, management, preservation, and effective use of records and archives through both theoretical and hands-on approaches. Curriculum covers the history and nature of recordkeeping, management from creation to preservation, archival and records systems, legal and ethical responsibilities, emerging technologies (such as AI and Blockchain), as well as outreach and community archives. The MAS offers opportunities for specialization (e.g., Indigenous knowledge stewardship), professional experience, project-based work, and paid internships. Graduates find roles as archivists, digital curators, records managers, policy officers, and more, in both public and private sectors.
