The Mechanical Engineering program at The University of British Columbia's Faculty of Applied Science (Engineering) combines hands-on activities with traditional academic teaching. Students start with a common first-year foundation focused on project-based, team learning, covering fundamental math, chemistry, physics, and communication courses. From the second year, students specialize in Mechanical Engineering and develop skills in areas such as automotives, biomechanics, robotics, energy, and aerospace. The program features coursework in core and elective subjects, and offers options in areas such as Aerospace, Biomechanics & Mechanical Devices, and Mechatronics. Practical experience can also be gained through the Co-operative Education (Co-op) program, which adds an extra year to the standard four-year degree and allows students to work in industry. The program prepares graduates for careers in sectors including construction, biomedical, manufacturing, aircraft, and power.
