NITEP (Indigenous Teacher Education Program) at UBC offers a five-year Bachelor of Education degree, designed for Indigenous students who wish to become teachers at elementary, middle, or secondary school levels. The program integrates Indigenous ways of knowing, traditional values, and cultural heritage throughout mainstream teacher education. Students commence their studies at field centres near their home communities for 2-3 years before finishing at UBC's Vancouver campus. All students complete both liberal arts/science and pedagogical requirements, alongside courses focused on Indigenous education theory and practice. Graduates are recommended for the BC Professional Teaching Certificate.
