The Bachelor of Music (General Studies) at the UBC School of Music provides a broad and flexible higher education in music, including private lessons on students' primary instrument and opportunities for elective study. The curriculum is designed to combine core training in practical musicianship, music theory, history, and technology with substantial freedom to choose electives, enabling students to prepare for a wide variety of careers or further study. Most students in the BMus program are enrolled in the General Studies major, and the pathway allows for transfer between related music specializations if desired. Private instruction, ensemble participation, and liberal arts courses form an integral part of the four-year program.
