The Environment and Science Communication Dual-degree Program at UNC-Chapel Hill is a pipeline program integrating environmental science or studies with media and journalism. Students complete a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies or a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science while taking specialized access to journalism and media courses at the Hussman School. Program highlights include interdisciplinary study with award-winning communicators and top scientists, experiential fieldwork (e.g., ecological research trips), and tailored preparation for entry into a fast-track one-year Master of Arts in Media and Communication, with concentrations in Journalism or Strategic Communication. Following curriculum changes in 2024, the dual-degree pathway is maintained as a 'pipeline,' allowing eligible undergraduates to reserve enrollment spots in select media courses and to apply seamlessly for the accelerated master’s degree.
