The Master of Science in Medical Device and Diagnostic Engineering at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is designed to prepare students for careers in the medical device and diagnostics industry, focusing on skills essential for developing medical devices and diagnostic techniques. The curriculum covers topics such as medical product regulation, product development, and quality systems. Students must complete a core set of courses (18-19 units), select a 6-8 unit specialty track (Regulation, Medical Technology & Device Science, or Product Development), and complete additional technical electives to reach a total minimum of 28 units. The program is intended for full-time study and typically lasts three semesters. It does not offer a thesis option, but directed research may be possible after the first semester. International students are eligible for OPT STEM extension. Beginning Fall 2024, the program is not available online via DEN@Viterbi.
