The Master of Music (MM) in Vocal Arts at USC Thornton School of Music is a two-year, 30-unit graduate program designed for advanced singers specializing in classical voice and opera. The program includes individual voice instruction, participation in ensembles, coursework in cantata and oratorio, science-informed voice pedagogy, vocal literature, music history, and electives. A graduate recital and comprehensive review are required for graduation. Students must demonstrate competency in foreign language, diction, vocal pedagogy, acting for singers, and Italian, French, or German, either by prior coursework, examination, or by completing USC courses as needed. The curriculum emphasizes performance, technical proficiency, and scholarly engagement with vocal literature.
