The Master of Education in Educational Counseling (EC) at USC Rossier prepares students to become academic advisors or counselors in higher education settings, such as community colleges and four-year universities. The program provides a thorough grounding in counseling theory and practice, student development theory, and higher education institutional dynamics. Students complete major coursework, research projects, as well as fieldwork placements at colleges and universities. Up to two seminars or a thesis may be completed under faculty supervision. The curriculum is designed to advance educational equity and train graduates to support the academic, social, and emotional success of diverse student populations. Program outcomes show that a high percentage of EC graduates are well-prepared to advance in the field of student affairs or pursue doctoral study.
