The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts is a flexible, practice-based graduate program designed to support studio practice in one or multiple fine arts mediums. Students refine their artistic skills, develop a practice-based methodology combining theory and practice, and progress toward a major exhibition as the thesis requirement. The program offers students individual studio space and access to comprehensive facilities and supervision from experienced academic staff. Research and creative investigation may be pursued in fields such as intermedia, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Completion typically requires two academic years of full-time study and culminates in a major public presentation of creative work, regarded as the equivalent to a written master's thesis.
