The University of Alberta's MBA with Specialization in Innovation & Entrepreneurship trains managers to take new ideas and inventions from their source of discovery to the marketplace. The program develops competencies in managing technology innovation, entrepreneurial ventures, and commercialization processes. Students learn to identify opportunities, facilitate innovation and development, manage intellectual property, and build new organizations and markets. The curriculum involves completing core MBA courses in the first year, followed by Innovation & Entrepreneurship electives and projects with real-world application—such as developing business and strategy plans for university spin-offs and startups. Students must complete 60 units of coursework, including a 3-unit capping project, and fulfill professional development and ethics requirements. The program is supported by the Technology Commercialization Centre and offers one of Canada's longest accredited business educations. It can be completed in two years full-time (with accelerated options available), or part-time over up to six years.
