The University of Alberta's Faculty of Education offers a course-based Master of Education (MEd) in Special Education that prepares graduates to meet the academic, psychological, and social needs of students with disabilities. The program emphasizes reading, writing, and oral language disabilities, equipping educators as specialist practitioners and consultants. Students complete seven courses and a Capping Exercise, combining one in-person summer course with the remainder online. MEd programs in Special Education admit a cohort every two years. The current curriculum includes research methods, trends in special education, assessment and intervention for reading, writing, and complex cases, and a final Capping Exercise. Applicants are assigned an advisor upon admission.
