The Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Alberta, offered through the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, focuses on the study of Earth materials, geological processes, and the history and evolution of the planet. This program is certified by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and emphasizes hands-on training through required field placements and laboratory work. Students can choose to pursue a Major, an Honors degree, a Minor, or combine Geology in a Double Major. The Honors option involves greater specialization and a research component. Graduates are well-prepared for careers as geologists, environmental consultants, and natural resource managers, or for advanced studies in Earth sciences. The curriculum covers areas such as sedimentology, stratigraphy, tectonics, paleontology, and environmental geology. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to pair their major with a minor or another major from a selection of over 60 subjects.
