The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta prepares students for diverse roles in planning, designing, and maintaining the infrastructure essential to modern society. The program covers a comprehensive technical curriculum including geotechnical, structural, water resources, transportation, environmental, and construction engineering. Students build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with opportunities to participate in research and industry-connected work placements. The program offers both a traditional academic route (4 years) and a co-op route (5 years) with 20 months of paid work experience integrated. There is also an option to specialize in Environmental Engineering. The first year (qualifying/foundational) is common to all engineering students; specialization in Civil Engineering is selected after completing the first year.
