This program provides interdisciplinary training for students aiming to understand health and illness in political, social, and cultural contexts. It integrates humanities, social sciences, and sciences, offering coursework from across Vanderbilt’s Graduate School, Medicine, Nursing, Law, and Public Health programs. Graduates acquire skills in critical analysis of health disparities, social determinants of health, and health justice. The curriculum prepares students for careers or further studies in health professions, academia, research, and health care consulting. The degree requires 30 credit hours, including core courses, theory and methods, electives, and a capstone project (thesis or practicum).
