The Master of Information Studies (MISt) at McGill University's School of Information Studies is a graduate program designed to prepare students as information professionals for a broad spectrum of environments, as well as for further research in library and information studies. The program offers two non-thesis options: a Course Work stream and a Project stream (with 15–18 research-focused credits). Students may personalize their coursework across key areas such as library studies, knowledge management, archives, UX, and data science. The curriculum emphasizes theoretical foundations, information management, ethics, research methods, digital technologies, and professional practice. The MISt is accredited by the American Library Association and typically requires two years of full-time study. Learning outcomes include managing knowledge resources, applying information technology, conducting research, and addressing access and ethical issues. An optional supervised practicum is also available.
