UC Irvine's Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program under the School of Physical Sciences provides foundational training in all major sub-disciplines of chemistry: organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and theoretical. The curriculum is rigorous, including traditional lecture courses, advanced lab experience, and research opportunities with faculty. Students may choose optional concentrations or specializations, such as Chemical Biology or Environmental Chemistry, allowing targeted study in modern chemical sciences. The program is ACS certified and designed to prepare graduates for professional, graduate, or medical/pharmaceutical fields. Research is strongly encouraged. Admission to the program requires meeting general University of California undergraduate requirements (including academic GPA, completion of required high school science and math courses). For Chemistry course placement, SAT/ACT scores or UC Irvine Chemistry Placement quiz are used. International students have additional orientation and advising sessions. All first-year students must attend orientation (SPOP).
