Eastman’s Master of Music in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media prepares talented jazz musicians for careers in performance, composition/arranging, and higher education. The program provides intensive individual instruction from resident faculty, comprehensive exposure to both jazz and classical traditions, and a curriculum emphasizing improvisation, ensemble playing, history, theory, and pedagogy. Students may select an emphasis in performance or writing. The program is structured to create musicians highly skilled in traditional and contemporary jazz, comfortable with a wide array of styles, and able to develop their own artistic voice in diverse musical settings.
