The BA in Classics at the University of Rochester is a language-centered program where students gain the ability to read, analyze, and interpret significant texts in ancient Greek and Latin. The curriculum is complemented by studies in ancient literature, philosophy, history, religion, and art. Students may major in both Greek and Latin, or focus on one language only, but all majors are encouraged to study both languages for at least one year. Key requirements include a minimum of 11 courses: at least six advanced courses in a major language (numbered 103 or higher), plus courses in ancient history, philosophy, literature/mythology, and the completion of a senior project involving the interpretation of ancient texts in the original language. This program equips graduates for advanced study or careers in education, museum work, research, and more.
