The Master of Arts in French and Francophone World Studies at the University of Iowa develops advanced competence in spoken and written French, literary and cultural analysis, and critical research. Students explore literature, culture, and theory across the Francophone world—including Europe, North America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean—guided by a diverse, internationally recognized faculty. The program includes written and oral examinations, with a focus on formal literary analysis, historical context, and critical scholarship; there are thesis and non-thesis options. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, cultural institutions, translation, and international fields.
