The Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Iowa equips students to understand the natural world through the study of geologic, hydrologic, atmospheric, and biotic systems, emphasizing both local and global processes over time. The BS degree features three tracks—Earth and Planetary Science, Environmental Bioscience, and Environmental Geoscience—allowing students to tailor their education to specific interests within earth and environmental sciences. The curriculum integrates biological, chemical, physical, and geological perspectives, offers extensive hands-on learning through field-based courses, laboratory work, and research opportunities, and prepares graduates for diverse careers or advanced study. Students benefit from access to research field stations and real-world field experiences.
