The Bachelor of Science in Geographical and Sustainability Sciences at the University of Iowa's School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability (formerly College of Liberal Arts and Sciences) is an interdisciplinary, quantitative program designed for students interested in addressing and understanding complex environmental challenges. The curriculum explores the dynamic interplay between natural and social systems, teaching how human activities impact the environment and vice versa. Students develop technical skills, especially in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and gain hands-on experience via labs, experiential learning, and research. The program offers two main tracks: Geographic Information Science and Sustainability Science. Graduates are prepared for careers or graduate study in environmental analysis, spatial data science, policy, and sustainability.
