The Bachelor of Science in Statistics at the University of Iowa's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides students with a strong foundation in probability, mathematical statistics, and data analysis. Students gain practical and theoretical training by completing a rigorous set of required core courses and then choose one of three emphasis tracks: Statistics in Business, Industry, Government, and Research (focusing on applied statistics and data analysis for careers as applied statisticians); Statistical Computing and Data Science (emphasizing computational aspects of statistics and preparing students for data-driven roles requiring programming and analysis skills); and Mathematical Statistics (offering advanced mathematics and theory, preparing students for graduate study in statistics). The full major requires a minimum of 120 semester hours, including general education requirements, core statistics and mathematics courses, and at least 14–15 major courses depending on the track. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in statistics, data science, business analytics, and for advanced study at the graduate level.
