The BA in Mathematics Education at the University of Iowa College of Education is designed for students preparing to teach mathematics at the secondary school level (grades 5–12). The program requires students to complete a double major: a BA in Mathematics (Program B, focused on education) from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Teacher Education Program (TEP) from the College of Education. Core coursework includes calculus, linear algebra, geometry, statistics, abstract algebra, analysis, computer science fundamentals, and electives in mathematics, as well as pedagogy and educational foundations in the TEP. The degree prepares students for state licensure to teach secondary mathematics in Iowa. Program participants benefit from classroom experiences, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities such as the Noyce Teacher Scholarship.
