Boston University’s Master of Arts in Public Anthropology (MAPA) trains students in anthropological theory and cross-cultural perspectives for application in professional fields. The program is designed for those entering or working in sectors including medicine, public health, education, journalism, law, environmental management, NGOs, consultancy, and public policy. Core requirements include foundational anthropological theory, research methods, and a final research paper integrating anthropology with the student's professional interests. Students must complete at least eight courses (32 credits), with options for electives and interdisciplinary work. Most students finish in two to three semesters, depending on research paper completion. The program usually does not offer financial aid.
