The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program at Karolinska Institutet is an integrated five-year full-time undergraduate program consisting of 300 ECTS credits. The curriculum covers odontological subjects, biomedicine, basic sciences, clinical and behavioral sciences, and extensive clinical dental training at the university’s dental clinic. The program’s structure emphasizes pre-clinical, simulation-based training followed by supervised clinical experience with real patients. Upon completion, students are awarded a Master of Science in Dental Surgery (not 'Bachelor' as per Swedish system). The Department of Dental Medicine is responsible for the program. All undergraduate dental education at Karolinska Institutet is conducted in Swedish and requires proficiency in Swedish for admission. The Department of Neuroscience at KI contributes courses (such as anatomy, histology, and neuroscience) as part of the integrated curriculum for dental students, but does not offer its own dedicated dental degree program.
