The Master of Religion and Public Life (MRPL) at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, is designed for professionals in fields such as law, healthcare, education, social work, and public service whose work requires sophisticated understanding of religion’s impact on society. It is not intended for individuals seeking ordained ministry, but for those who need to navigate complex religious landscapes in their professions. The curriculum requires 36 credit hours, normally through 11 courses and a final integrative paper. Core requirements include foundational coursework in religion and society, world religions, and Christian beliefs/practices. The program is highly flexible, allowing part-time or full-time study, on campus, in a hybrid format, or fully online. Students may also enhance their studies with select academic certificates (such as Human Rights, Chaplaincy Studies, World Christianity, or Justice, Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation).
