The BA in African Studies at Emory College of Arts and Sciences provides geographically focused international expertise on Africa’s 55 nations. The program offers essential background and foundational skills for graduate work in fields such as anthropology, art history, history, and literature, preparing students for careers in national or international organizations involved with Africa, from peacebuilding to disease eradication. The curriculum requires a minimum of nine courses (six with wholly African content), participation in study/research abroad is encouraged, and at least four upper-level courses (300 or 400 level) are required. The major builds interdisciplinary skills and knowledge about African societies, cultures, and global impact.
