The Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature at Emory College of Arts and Sciences offers students the opportunity to study literature across languages, cultures, and disciplines. Majors read literary texts in at least one language other than English, engage with works from antiquity to the present, and explore global cultural productions from a transnational perspective. The program emphasizes literary theory, interpretation, and the relationship between literature and media such as film, digital art, and visual culture, as well as with other fields (philosophy, history, law, psychoanalysis). Students take core classes in major texts, literary theory, and interpretation, and can choose electives in topics such as French poetry, Russian film, Latin American magical realism, postcolonial popular culture, or disaster literature, among many others. The major requires completion of 10 courses (including five core courses and electives), with a strong focus on advanced language study and cultural diversity.
