The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) at the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (SAPL) is Alberta’s only professionally accredited MLA program. Accredited by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects since 2018, it prepares graduates for careers in landscape architecture with a curriculum that integrates design studios, landscape theory, technology, and planning. The program spans three years, beginning with a Foundation Year (which may be waived for students holding a related design degree), followed by two advanced years (M1 and M2). The MLA is a course-based professional degree (no thesis required), emphasizing real-world and work-integrated learning, addressing areas such as climate change mitigation, urban design, recreation, ecology, and environmental stewardship. Students benefit from strong professional network connections across Canada and North America.
