The University of Calgary’s Master of Social Work (MSW) with a specialization in Clinical Social Work Practice is a nationally-accredited graduate program designed to prepare students for advanced, critical, and culturally competent practice with individuals, families, and groups. The curriculum integrates theory, research, and practice for various populations and emphasizes therapeutic assessment and interventions underpinned by social justice. The program is offered in a blended or online format, with mandatory in-person residencies and a required 500-hour practicum. For Spring 2025, topics within the clinical specialization include Clinical Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups; Infant, Child, and Adolescent Mental Health; and Trauma-Informed Practice. The program is open to those with a Bachelor of Social Work degree as well as students from other undergraduate backgrounds (the latter must complete an additional foundational year). Applicants select either a course-based or thesis-based route.
