The MEd in School Counselling at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, is a flexible, high-quality graduate program designed to equip current teachers with the knowledge and practical skills required for effective school-based counselling. The curriculum integrates research, ethical and legal considerations, and applied skills in promoting student wellness and career development with a focus on social equity, diversity, decolonization, Indigenization, and inclusion. The program structure is intended as a professional development route for teachers (not for psychologist registration), emphasizing evidence-based practices for K-12 settings. The learning outcomes center on two major aspects of comprehensive health education: school wellbeing and career development, embedded in a social justice framework. Courses are delivered in a flexible, mostly online or blended-learning format suitable for working professionals, culminating in applied coursework and practical experiences.
