The Master of Science (MS) in Botany at University of California Riverside’s College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, Department of Botany & Plant Sciences, offers a broad-based and interdisciplinary graduate education in plant biology. The program builds expertise in molecular, cellular, developmental biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, plant physiology, ecology, and evolution. Students can choose between two tracks: Plan I (thesis-based, requiring original research and defense) and Plan II (non-thesis, requiring a report and successful completion of a comprehensive exam). The curriculum includes core courses, seminars, and professional development, providing rigorous academic, research, and career training. Faculty research spans agricultural plant biology, genomics, biochemistry, evolution, systematics, and more. The primary objective is to develop scientists for teaching, research, or applied science careers in academia, government, or industry.
