The Master of Science in Environmental Metrology and Policy at Georgetown University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is a pioneering, interdisciplinary program developed jointly with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The program emphasizes scientific and evidence-based approaches for identifying, quantifying, and managing environmental pollutants and their risks to health and ecosystems, integrating metrology (measurement science) with policy formation. Students undertake a 40-credit curriculum over 2 years, including six metrology and five policy-focused core courses, hands-on training, a capstone thesis, and a program-funded research internship. A free summer chemistry bootcamp and evening course scheduling support diverse academic backgrounds and working professionals. Graduates become qualified to lead and implement data-driven, regulatory, and scientific solutions for global environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution, and sustainability.
