The Master of Arts in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies (MAERES) at Georgetown University's Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with a deep and broad understanding of the politics, history, economics, languages, and cultures spanning from Central Europe to the Pacific Ocean, and from the Baltic to the Black Seas. The curriculum delivers rigorous preparation in analytical and methodological skills with extensive multidisciplinary coursework, including advanced language training in regional languages (e.g., Russian, Polish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Persian). The program fosters expertise and prepares graduates for careers in government, international agencies, academia, NGOs, and private sector roles involving Eurasian and Eastern European affairs. Students complete 36 credits across two years, including core research seminars, language courses, and electives selected to support individual career goals. Joint or accelerated degrees are also available for interested students.
