The Bachelor of Arts in Chinese program at Georgetown University’s College of Arts & Sciences provides rigorous training in spoken and written Chinese along with critical approaches to a wide variety of Chinese cultural phenomena—including classical and modern literature, visual arts, film, popular culture, and philosophical and social thought. Most courses are conducted in Chinese. The curriculum requires 12 courses, including foundational and advanced language, an introduction to Classical Chinese, a seminar on Chinese culture/literature/linguistics in English, and a senior seminar. Students must spend at least one semester studying abroad in a Chinese-speaking country (Mainland China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong). The major culminates in a Senior Seminar paper or honors thesis related to Chinese studies.
