The Global Medieval Studies program at Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major focusing on the thousand-year period between circa 500-1500 C.E. The major draws faculty and courses from more than fifteen departments, covering regions from Europe to China, Africa, and the Middle East. Majors must complete at least 10 courses (30 credit hours), including courses focused both inside and outside Europe. Language study relevant to medieval scholarship (e.g., Arabic, Latin, Greek) is encouraged, and up to two approved language courses may count toward the major. The program examines topics such as art, music, philosophy, literature, history, and theology, highlighting interconnections and global perspectives. Students gain robust interdisciplinary training in research, writing, analysis, and critical inquiry. Honors track requires an 11th course and a senior thesis. Students may study abroad and benefit from Washington D.C.'s rich cultural resources.
