This unique program, offered by the School of Optometry at Université de Montréal, provides advanced training for individuals seeking to work with people with visual impairments. It is the only master's program in Canada in this field and is available entirely in English (also offered in French). The curriculum prepares graduates to offer clinical rehabilitation services, conduct applied and clinical research, and educate the public about visual impairments. Students develop rehabilitation, counseling, and advocacy skills, and may choose from concentrations in orientation and mobility, vision rehabilitation therapy, or low vision. A person-centred, interdisciplinary approach is emphasized. The program includes internships that can be completed globally, and covers the assessment of visual status, instruction strategies, adaptive technology, daily living activities, and braille. Admission is open to those with undergraduate degrees in occupational therapy, psychology, social work, or other related health fields.
