The BSHS in Medical Genetics and Molecular Biology with a Microbiology Concentration at The George Washington University's School of Medicine and Health Sciences prepares graduates with knowledge and hands-on skills in molecular, genetic, and microbiological theory and techniques. The curriculum focuses on the molecular and genetic basis of disease, identification and characterization of biomarkers, and practical laboratory techniques relevant across medical specialties such as infectious disease, oncology, forensics, and pharmacogenomics. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Technologist exam in Molecular Biology and Microbiology (ASCP), equipping them for roles in clinical molecular labs, public health, biotech, government, and research. The program offers both hybrid (online lectures plus in-person labs and practicums) and fully online formats for certified MLTs.
