The Master of Social Work (MSW) at Boston College School of Social Work offers a specialized field of practice focused on Latinx Communities. Through the Latinx Leadership Initiative (LLI), bilingual and bicultural students are trained to provide culturally and linguistically responsive social work to Latinx populations. The LLI cohort takes eight core courses (many delivered in Spanish), participates in field education placements at agencies serving Latinx communities, and engages in monthly workshops developed with community partners. The program aims to address systemic barriers to accessing services in education, healthcare, legal, housing, and social systems facing Latinx communities. Students benefit from faculty and supervisors who are often Latinx themselves and have extensive practice experience. Completing the Latinx Leadership Certificate requires specific coursework and two field placements in organizations working with Latinx populations.
