The Perspectives on Spanish America interdisciplinary major at Boston College's Lynch School of Education & Human Development is designed for undergraduates—primarily Elementary Education majors or those studying Applied Psychology and Human Development—who wish to develop their Spanish language skills in combination with foundational knowledge of historical, sociological, and literary traditions connected to Spanish American cultures. The major consists of nine courses including a core literary analysis course in Spanish, three Romance language and literature courses, one interdisciplinary course, and four interdisciplinary electives covering topics related to history, sociology, politics, economics, culture, or education in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central and South America. Entry is recommended for students with at least two years of high school Spanish. The program prepares graduates to engage deeply with the Spanish-speaking world and related community contexts.
