The Master’s in Youth Development and Social Change at Utrecht University focuses on the development of young people from adolescence to young adulthood in an ever-changing interdisciplinary context. The programme bridges scientific disciplines—such as social and behavioural sciences, geography, law, and medical sciences—to address critical contemporary youth issues like mental health, social participation, youth culture, and societal inclusion. Students will learn to analyze the interaction between young people's personal characteristics and their diverse environments (family, peers, school, neighbourhood, and broader society), develop skills to translate research into effective policies and interventions, and gain hands-on experience working in interdisciplinary teams with researchers and professionals. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based solutions to challenges related to youth well-being, health, lifestyle, digitalization, and the social impact of current policies.
