Stony Brook University's Master of Science in Science Communication, offered by the School of Communication and Journalism in partnership with the Alda Center for Communicating Science, is a fully online program that prepares students to communicate science effectively with various audiences. Students may choose a general track or specialize in climate communication. The curriculum consists of 33 credits (18 required, 15 elective), with courses such as Communication Research Methods, Principles of Inclusive Engagement, Communication Law & Ethics, and specialized electives. The program culminates in a capstone project directly applicable to real-world stakeholders. Designed for scientists, professionals, and researchers, the MS trains graduates to advocate for valid, reliable discourse about science and respond to the growing need for skilled science communicators.
