The Master of Science in Nursing: Midwifery at Stony Brook University School of Nursing is an advanced graduate program preparing registered nurses to become certified nurse-midwives (CNMs). The curriculum develops expertise in care for women across the lifespan—including prenatal, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care—with an emphasis on normal birth and family-centered practice. The program includes 45 credits comprising core, research, clinical, and specialty courses, with students prepared for New York State and American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) exams. Graduates gain interprofessional leadership, advanced health assessment, pharmacology, clinical decision-making, and evidence-based practice competencies. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) and combines distance learning with on-site requirements.
