The Master of Arts in Anthropology at Stony Brook University is designed for students seeking either academic or non-academic careers, including those pursuing further anthropological training for professional goals or bridging into doctoral work. The curriculum features foundational and advanced coursework across anthropological subfields, with professional training and the opportunity for a supervised capstone project. Additional options include earning credits abroad or pursuing the Advanced Graduate Certificate in Human Origins via a partnership with the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya. The program is independent of the PhD track and typically does not provide teaching or tuition assistantships. Both full-time and part-time study are available.
