The Biochemistry BS program at Stony Brook University's College of Arts and Sciences offers students a rigorous curriculum in the chemical principles underlying biological phenomena. Students build a scientific foundation in basic biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics, with subsequent study in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and laboratory skills. The program emphasizes fundamental and modern topics required for advanced study, health professions, teaching, or immediate employment in research and industry. Students have access to a broad selection of electives such as cancer biology, physiology, microbiology, bioinformatics, neurobiology, and developmental biology. Participation in faculty research and teaching assistantships is encouraged for upper-division credit. Graduates demonstrate mastery of biochemistry, laboratory competency, scientific reasoning, clear communication, and teamwork skills.
